New StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm Trailer

Here's a look StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm from Blizzcon.

The new trailer shows off some of the new units you can expect to see. Blizzard says the entire trailer is made entirely from its in-game engine. Nice!

According to Ubisoft, this new trailer "showcases the merciless fighting prowess of master assassins Ezio Auditore and Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad as they join the ancient war between Assassins and Templars." Translation: there's a whole lot of elaborate killin' going on.

Ezio is the baddest Italian dude we know (no offense to The Situation).

LucasArts confirms staff layoffs

Reports this morning say there’s a 30 percent staff reduction at LucasArts going into effect today. We got confirmation from LucasArts with the following statement:

“LucasArts is reorganizing its teams to better address the needs of the internal studio. Unfortunately, this means adjusting staffing. LucasArts continues to be committed to creating a first-class internal studio – and to fostering relationships with trusted external partners – in order to deliver quality games that amaze and inspire fans.”

The representative we spoke to declined to name the total number of staff gone, or which departments suffered the most drastic cuts. The initial report began at Kotaku as a rumor a little over two weeks after Haden Blackman left the company.

GamePro will continue to follow this story as it develops.

Video Game Gossip News from GamePro.com

Both Microsoft and Sony still believe that their respective consoles have plenty of life left in them, but that doesn't mean they aren't actively planning for the future.

Develop has a report from a source that says that work on "several" PS4 projects has begun at unspecified Sony first-party studios. These aren't games yet, per se, because their concepts haven't been green-lit  for full production. Particularly because the PS4's tech specs, etc. haven't been decided yet.

Develop has also heard from various sources that Microsoft plans to bring out the Xbox 360's successor, the so-called Xbox Next, in late 2013. The system would be fully debuted at the E3 convention that same year.

From everything we've heard on our end, these timetables seem very reasonable.
